French manufacturer Renault and its partner Nissan are set to launch a small car in the Indian market to appeal wide range of customers. The Renault small car is ‘Pulse’ and it is the third car from the company after the earlier launches of Fluence and Koleos. The new Renault small car is based on Micra platform and it is surely set to establish its brand in India.
The new Renault small car is equipped with 1.2 liter petrol engine and 1.5 liter diesel engine. It comes with qualities of Nissan Micra and has all the features of a premium hatchback car. The heater, ventilation and air conditioner controls on the dash and there are other styling features. Renault Pulse boasts of good boot space with remote boot opener.

Some of the other features are power windows, power steering, air conditioner, rear defogger, rear wiper, remote central locking, tinted glass, leather seats, rear parcel tray, music system integrated in dashboard, electrically adjustable ORVMs and steering mounted controls. The Renault Pulse has bagged 5 star EuroNCAP rating indicating that the car is high on safety features like 2 airbags, EBD(Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), ABS(Anti Lock Braking System), front and rear side impact bars, fog lamps rear seat belts, etc.
The Renault small car will compete with Hyundai i20, Hyundai Eon, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Alto, Rtiz, Skoda Fabia, Volkswagen Polo, Ford Figo, Chevrolet Beat, Fiat Grande Punto and Nissan Micra. It is expected to be launched in January 2012 and the public debut will be at the auto expo in New Delhi.
Renault Pulse is anticipated to come in 6 variants with 3 petrol and 3 diesel. The petrol engine will be equipped with 3 cylinders and 1198 cc displacement whereas diesel versions will come with 1.5 liter 4 cylinder K9K. The petrol versions can generate torque of 104 Nm and power of 75 bhp whereas diesel versions can generate power of 64 bhp and torque of 160 Nm.
Fuel Economy
The K9K diesel engine of Renault Pulse is said to offer a mileage of 23 kmpl. The engine has been fitted in order to enhance power and increase fuel efficiency by reduction in friction. The same principle is also applied in F1 cars which are powered by RS27 engine. However, there are also petrol versions.
